Reception class

Our new Reception class start full days for the first time today. We hope that they enjoy staying all day. Y5 pupils will start as ‘buddies’ for the reception pupils today and, among other things, will be accompanying them for lunch.

Parents, please complete the ‘induction survey’ which will help us reflect on the arrangements for starting school this year and improve them for the future. Thank you.

Reading and Phonics workshop

There is a workshop for Reception parents this Wednesday 27th September at 6pm. This will set out how we teach reading at Hillside and how parents can support their children at home. We do hope that you are able to join us as we are sure you will find the evening both enjoyable and informative.

Celebration assembly

This Friday sees our first ‘Celebration Assembly’ where the children from each class receive certificates. Parents of children receiving a certificate are invited and we do hope you can join us. We will also be presenting our new ‘Lead Learners’ with their Hillside pencil cases and badges. Lead Learners are pupils who set a fantastic example to others with their attitudes to learning.

After school clubs

If your child attends an after school club could you please collect them from the KS1 playground. If your child has applied, Streetdance starts this Wednesday 27th September and Mad Science on Monday 9th October.

Parent Governor Vacancy

A reminder that there will be a vacancy on the full governing body for a parent governor from November 2017. If you are interested, nominations must be returned to the school office by this Friday 29th September, please contact the office for further details.

Min-y-don

Next week (2-6 October) is the Y6 residential week at Min-y-don in Wales. The pupils will enjoy a week of outdoor and adventurous activities including kayaking, archery and zip-wiring! We hope that they have a fantastic time! They will be accompanied by Mrs Thomas (Y6 teacher), Miss Jagota and Mr Richardson. Any issues or concerns during Mr Richardson’s absence can be directed to Mr Khan, the deputy Headteacher. Thank you.

Donations from ‘The Wonder’ Exhibition

Donations from the wishing well, displayed in our exhibition last term, totalled £230.31 which has been donated to the ‘Make a Wish’ Foundation UK. The foundation helps poorly children by granting their magical wishes.

FOH DISCO - Thursday 26th October at School. Details to follow in the next few weeks.

FRIENDS OF HILLSIDE AGM

TONIGHT is the FOH annual AGM. It will be held in the School staff room and will start at 7pm. The meetings usually only last about one hour and we really would like to see you all there. Please do come along if you can. Thank you.

MEMENTO’S

Hurry! Limited stock left and is on a first come, first serve basis.

Calendars - We are very pleased that these calendars have become a ‘must-have’ item for your home. The FOH calendars include ALL of the School's important dates including ‘inset days’ and are neatly organised into the months of our Children's birthdays. The calendars run from September’17 until August’18. If you would like to purchase one, they are £5 each.

Tea Towels - During the Summer term, all of the Children did a portrait of themselves. These beautiful creations were then transferred onto a Tea Towel. They look amazing and are just the perfect ‘keepsake’ for all the family to enjoy. The Tea Towels are available for £4 each or 3 for £10.

Jute Bags - We have some of our great quality, Jute Bags, available to buy. They are strong holding and a generous size! Perfect to use while out and about on your travels. These are available at £5 per bag.

Keyrings - Did you know, FOH have their own keyrings?! These look really nice when added to your School bag. They are only 50p each - Bargain!

If you would like to purchase any of the above items, please contact FOH via email or Facebook. FOH will then have your item/s ready for collection from the School Office. Cash or Cheque (made payable to: ‘friends of Hillside Primary’) is accepted.
