Welcome back

Welcome back everyone! We hope that you have all enjoyed a restful Easter break and that the Easter bunny made his annual visit! We hope that the children are looking forward to an exciting summer term – hopefully with some warmer weather and a chance to enjoy time outside and at the school field. Below we have listed some of the most important dates for this term. Please make a note of these in your diary and particularly note the changes (in bold). Thank you. As always, if you have any questions or queries, please speak to your child’s classteacher or Mr Richardson.

Cinema night!

This year we are holding a ‘Cinema Night’ on Thursday 14th June from 3.15pm until 7pm. The film is yet to be confirmed but we will make sure it is new and relevant and appeals to as many children as possible. The evening will include food (hot dog), drinks, popcorn and some treats. Total cost £5. Tickets are available from the school office from next week.

Poetry recital competition

To fit in with this summer’s World Cup, this term’s poetry recital competition has a ‘World’ or ‘Football’ theme. The children are invited to learn a poem and recite this to their class. They can also choose to write their own if they prefer. The best ‘poetry performers’ from each class will be invited to perform their poems in a whole school assembly on Friday 18th May at 10.15am. Class competitions will be held during the week beginning 7th May.

Extra-curricular clubs and activities

A form about extra-curricular activities and after-school clubs has been sent out today. Please complete and return this before Friday 20th April so that we can start all clubs next week. Unless stated otherwise, clubs run by external providers may start and end at different times.

This week, Y3/4 and Y5/6 volleyball teams will play in the FAVSP tournament. Good luck to everyone taking part.

Next week are the rearranged football tournaments for Y1 and Y2:-

  • Y1 mini kickers Thursday 26th April Frodsham Leisure Centre 1pm
  • Y2 mini kickers Wednesday 25th April Frodsham Leisure Centre 1pm

Good luck to all those taking part.

A reminder for Y3 who are starting their swimming lessons this Friday, 20th April. Don’t forget your gear!

Lunch accounts

Please ensure your child’s lunch account is in credit for the start of this term and that any arrears are cleared asap. Please note from September 2018, the cost of a school meal is increasing by 5p to £2.30 per day.

Free School Meal Changes

From 1st April an earnings threshold for people who are in receipt of Universal Credit is being introduced. Free school meals are available to pupils in receipt of, or whose parents are in receipt of, one or more of the following benefits:

• Universal Credit (provided you have an annual net earned income of no more than £7,400, as assessed by earnings from up to three of your most recent assessment periods)

• Income Support

• Income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance

• Income-related Employment and Support Allowance

• Support under Part VI of the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999

• The guarantee element of Pension Credit

• Child Tax Credit (provided you’re not also entitled to Working Tax Credit and have an annual gross income of no more than £16,190)

• Working Tax Credit run-on – paid for four weeks after you stop qualifying for Working Tax Credit

This is different to Universal Infant Free School Meals which all children in Reception, Y1 and Y2 are currently entitled to receive.

If you think you may be eligible for Free School Meals (even if your child is in R, Y1 or Y2) please contact the school office or apply to the Local Authority by telephone on 0300 123 8123 or online via the Cheshire West and Chester website.

SEN Parent survey

Cheshire West and Chester Parent & Carer Forum are conducting a survey to collect evidence about the experiences of families relating to special educational needs and disability. It is intended to gather as many view points as possible; both positive as well as any negative experiences. Please access the survey here Parent Carer Forum Survey or via the SEND Information pages, under the Parents menu on the school website. The survey closes on 18th April.

Job vacancies

Helsby High School are looking for Mid-Day Assistants to join their current team who supervise students during the lunchtime period. Please visit their website, for further details of the role as well as the application form, or contact Mr M Vickers at for more information.
