Newsletter 26th February

Welcome back

Welcome back everyone! We hope that you had a lovely half-term break and that the children had a good rest and that they are ready for an exciting half-term in the run up to Easter. Part of our work this term in RE will focus on the Easter story and this will culminate in a special ‘Easter’ assembly on Thursday 29th March at 1.15pm. Parents are most welcome to join us in this celebration. Thank you.

Extra-curricular clubs

All before and after school clubs are ongoing from last half term. A reminder that Artjam is continuing for a further 3 weeks from 8th-22nd March 2018. Please contact the office if your child would like to continue or sign up for the club.

World Book Day – 1st March

This Thursday is world book day. A reminder that as part of our celebrations, children can dress up as their favourite book character. Also, children are invited to take part in a ‘book swap’. Children can bring in a pre-loved book that they would like to swap. They will be given a ‘book swap’ token which they will be able to exchange for a new book later in the day. Books should be in good condition and suitable for the age group of your child.

Invacuation Procedure

During the week before half-term we conducted an ‘Invacuation’. This is where we practice getting the children inside the school building quickly and safely in the event of a critical incident. A full copy of the ‘Invacuation procedure’ is available on the website. The practice went very well and the children were very sensible.

Mrs Flynn

We are delighted to welcome back Mrs Flynn after her maternity leave. She will be teaching Year 3 on Thursdays and Fridays. We hope she enjoys her return to Hillside and wish her well. Mrs Potts will continue to teach Year 3 on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

Change 4 Life

Bodie Eyre and Olivia Jones (Y4) are our new ‘Change 4 Life’ champions. They are leading an assembly this week encouraging all children to be active. They are also organising an extra lunchtime ‘change 4 life’ club for KS1 and KS2 children. This forms part of the ‘Get Active’ and Healthy Schools initiatives.

The Playground looks amazing!! If you’ve not seen it, go see it!! Because words on a newsletter doesn’t do it justice. The children this morning, were all looking through the fence, eagerly excited to get playing on it! - their little faces were priceless! Well done everyone!

Back in January, we had a ClothesAid collection. This event raised a fantastic amount of £183 - well done everyone! Thank you to Onye for organising, school for letting us flood their corridors with bags and to all of you for your donations - thank you!

Thank you to ALL helpers on the night including Andy and our teachers. The Children loved it and had great fun! Thanks to DJ Miller, Tesco for their Bread rolls and to everyone for coming. With thanks to your support, we raised a whopping £292.31! Thank you so much!

EASTER BINGO - Friday 23rd March, School Hall

Our much loved Easter Bingo is nearly here!

The NON UNIFORM day to help stock the hampers, will be on Friday 9th March

A letter will be sent home soon with more details.

FOH MEETING - Monday 19th March, 7pm in the White Lion.

<<This is IMPORTANT>>

There were not many Parents at the January meeting and because of this, it caused a bit of concern for our Summer Fair. We are hoping that the joy of Spring has reached us all, and hopefully, we will have a better turn out at this meeting. We will decide on the night if we are having a Summer Fair or not.

If you can’t make the meeting but would like to offer your support, please email us prior to the meeting at or, have a little chat with Andy or Davina in KS1 Playground next to Y2. They will be happy to answer any FOH questions you may have.

Everyone is welcome & a warm welcome awaits.

Please come along - we really do need you!
