Anti-bullying Week

This week is national anti-bullying week.  Schools across the country are participating in this important event to emphasise our stance against bullying.  Mr Richardson shared information with the children in assembly today and together with representatives of the school council, signed the ‘Anti-bullying Charter’. Tomorrow, the anti-bullying alliance are encouraging everyone to demonstrate their stance against bullying by wearing odd socks!  All children and staff are invited to wear odd socks tomorrow to support this, no monetary donation is required.  As always, if you are worried about your child and that someone may be bullying them or is being unkind, please speak to your child’s classteacher or Mr Richardson.  Thank you.

Children in Need

As always, we are keen to support the BBC ‘Children in Need’ appeal.  This year, the children can come dressed in their own clothes (Pudsey Bear or ‘Wild and Wacky’ are this year’s suggested themes but the children can wear whatever they want to).  This year donations can be made online via ParentPay as detailed in the email sent last week, please link attached.

Y4 parent workshop

Mrs Boudier is holding a workshop for Year 4 parents on Tuesday 26th November at 2pm.  The meeting will focus on the teaching of reading and then look at maths – especially this year’s national times tables test for all Y4 pupils.  This is an important meeting with information about what the children are doing in school but also sharing ideas for how parents can help at home.  Do please try and come if you can.  Thank you.

This week sees Year 6 start their ‘Bikeability’ training.  All children have the opportunity to learn how to develop their bike riding skills and learn how to cycle safely.  Sessions begin on the playground and then progress onto the roads around school.  All children who pass their ‘level 2 Bikeability’ are able to cycle to school, with parents’ permission, in the summer term.

Flu immunisation

A reminder that flu vaccinations are being administered in school on Tuesday 19th November. If you haven’t done so already, please return the consent form, even if you do not wish your child to have the vaccination.

KS2 Lunch payments

Please check your child’s account and make payment asap if your account is in arrears. Lunches must be made for in advance, please contact the school office if you have any concerns.

Sports update

Well done to the footballers who represented Hillside in last week’s FAVSP football tournament. The Y3/4 and Y5/6 teams both performed well, winning nearly all their games!

Parent helpers

We would like to remind parents that you are most welcome to come into school and help us!  We  are looking for volunteers at the moment, especially for the Reception class, to help us listen to readers, help with learning sounds, key words and numbers and with arts and activities.  If you can spare an hour, a morning or a day, please do let us know and we will make arrangements.  A regular commitment helps us to plan but any help would be appreciated.  Thank you so very much!

We have received a complaint about parking on Bates Lane.  Last week, a driveway was blocked for a considerable time and residents could not access their property.  Please remember to park considerately.  We understand that the road closure on Old Chester Road is impacting on our voluntary one-way system at the moment but do please try and follow this as it does help traffic flow so much and increases road safety around the school gates.  Thank you!

Helsby Pre-School

Starting after Half Term (November 6th) come and join us for FREE Stay & Play session on Wednesday 9:15-10:30am.  Friendly chat, fun activities and the chance to make friends. Open to all. S4YC Preschool is based in the Lower Hall of Helsby Methodist Church, Chester Road.

Thank you for your continued support

Thanks to you we raised an amazing £351.87 from the Halloween discos. Every penny will benefit the children and enrich their life at Hillside. We appreciate the time and effort you make to participate in these events and the donations you make go a long way.

Volunteers needed for the Christmas Fayre
Our annual Christmas Fayre takes place on Friday 29 November from 18:00 – 20:00 and we’re looking for volunteers to help make the night a success.

  • Free after morning drop off or afternoon pick up? Could you spare an hour or two to help set up?
  • Could you help to run a stall on the night or serve refreshments?
  • Could you hang back at the end of the night to help us tidy up?

It a rewarding way to get into the Christmas spirit – contact us if you can lend a hand.
