Year 2 2020 - 2021

Mrs Fletcher-Curran

Welcome to Year 2!

Year 2 is taught by Mrs Fletcher-Curran Monday-Thursday am

Mrs Quraishy on Thursday pm and Friday.

Week ending 26th March 2021

This week we have been looking at past/present tense. We have role played the Easter Story and then written a letter home imagining we were a disciple of Jesus. We have also completed a time line of Holy Week and we will use this next week to support us in our writing of the story in our special Easter books. We are also working hard with spellings of the year 1 and 2 common exception words as these are frequently incorrectly spelt. Please practise these at home (see sheet in downloads).

In Maths the children have been revising multiplication and division and we have been practising our 2's, 5's & 10 times tables. Next week we will be looking at fractions.

In Science we have been investgating how malleable materials are by manipulating them in different ways and recording our results.

We also had some very special visitors in our classroom on Thursday afternoon - the chicks from Year One came to pay us a visit! We were very careful to use quiet voices and we let the chicks play on or carpet before sketching them.

I must give a 'shout-out' to Jack Willshire who has worked so hard with his hand writing and has been awarded a 'Star Writer' pencil. I also need to mention Jack for his amazing mental maths, he is a superstar. Jack has clearly been working hard and is well on his way to being ready for Year 3. Well done Jack!

Home work this week is to work your way through the common exception words found in the downloads, practising any your child is struggling with. I would also like your child to make an Easter bonnet to bring in next Thursday for our Easter party (we won't be going to the field next week so school uniform on Thursday please). It can be made from card or you can decorate a real bonnet/hat. Please also practise the 2 times table.

Many thanks,

Mrs Fletcher-Curran & Mrs Quraishy

I would like the children to read for 20 minutes every day, (you can find reading material on Collins ebooks or Oxford Owl clicking on the link here using the class login - Username: hillside wise owls, password hillside2). The colours correspond with the colours in school so your child can choose appropriate material.

Spelling and Phonics

Lots of parents have been asking for websites where they can help their children revise spelling patterns and phonics, offers lots of free phonics and spellings games that your child may enjoy.

Further spelling activities can be found using this link here or visit Top Marks for spelling games -

Please visit Top Marks for Maths Games -

If you have any problems please email me on the class email

Our Hillside Website has a Wellbeing Page that is being regularly updated and managed by Miss Leisa Hughes. You can find links to My Happy Mind, a range of activities and useful links to help support well-being and a positive mental health. Please do look at this page (situated below the Y6 class page on our website).

Please stay safe and keep smiling!

Mrs Fletcher-Curran & Mrs Quraishy
