Welcome to Year 2!

Year 2 is taught by Mrs Fletcher-Curran Monday-Thursday am

Mrs Quraishy on Thursday pm and Friday.

Friday 14th January 2022

Dear all,

Year 2 have had a great week! We have started our English unit learning about The Great Fire of London. We have identified the key features of a non-fiction text and have been sorting sentences into fiction/non-fiction categories. We have also started reading The Great Fire of London by Emma Adams and James Weston Lewis - we did not like the sound of the living conditions in London in 1666!

Please see the link below to an animated story of The Great Fire of London.

In Maths we have continued to learn about multiplication and how to recognise that multiplication is the same as repeated addition.

I will upload the worksheet we completed today for any children who have been absent.

The children enjoyed a brilliant assembly today by Rev. Mills all about the gift of giving. We also spent time discussing how beautifully different we all are and have been celebrating our diversity in our KS1 assembly this week.

Have a great weekend,

Mrs Quraishy

Happy New Year!

Dear all,

Year 2 have had a fantastic first week back after Christmas. It has been so lovely to see their smiling faces and so lovely to finally have a full class back in! We have been learning about colour mixing this week and how we can mix the primary colours to make different shades of secondary colours. We then looked at different artists who have used shades of the same colour in their paintings and painted our own flame pictures. We have read the book Blown Away by Rob Biddulph this week and have been thinking about how our homes make us feel. We also designed our own deserted island and thought carefully about who we would want to share that island with and why.

If your child is absent from school then please check this webpage for work that we will be uploading weekly.

I would like to say a huge thank you to all the children and grownups for the kind Christmas wishes, cards, and presents that I received at the end of last half term. I have thank you cards for everyone which I will give to the children on Thursday.

Have a great weekend,

Mrs Quraishy

Friday 10th December

Dear all,

Year 2 have been working hard all week preparing for their Christmas Play. They put on a fantastic performance on Thursday and we are all so proud of them! Thank you to all the parents/carers for your support in helping your children learn their lines and dances and providing excellent costumes.

In Maths we have been recapping on addition and subtraction by completing Christmas themed problems and puzzles. Today we started looking at multiplication and how we can use repeat addition to find out the answer to calculations such as 2x5.

It is the last week of term next week - we will be continuing with our learning as always but we will also be doing some fun Christmas activities and crafts. Please stay safe and have a great weekend,

Mrs Quraishy

Dear all,

For the children who are currently unable to come into school, I have added some maths activities and spelling, punctuation and grammar exercises to be completed at home.  The activities focus on the learning for the Autumn term.  I will add some more work shortly.

Mrs Evans.

Friday 26th November 2021

Dear all,

Year 2 have had a fantastic week in school. In English we have started to write our owl fact file. We have split our researched facts into different headings such as 'characteristics', 'appearance' and 'diet'. In Maths we have been learning about money. We can recognise coins and notes. We pretended to be customers and shop keepers and bought lots of different items, making sure that we used the correct notes and coins to pay for them. In Phonics we have been looking at the phoneme /air/ as in chair and the alternative spellings/graphemes such as /are/ as in square.

Thank you all for your continued support this week,

Have a lovely weekend,

Mrs Quraishy

Friday 19th November 2021

Dear all,

Year 2 have had a fantastic week in school. In English we have been learning about owls. We have been looking at joining two owl facts together with ‘and’ ‘but’ ‘because’ and ‘so’ making sure that the new sentence makes sense. In Maths we have been looking at subtraction this week. The children have learned how to subtract using a number line, and today using Base 10.

All of the children have been sent home with a letter about the annual Christmas Journey that they will be attending on Wednesday 1st December. Please sign the permission slip and return to school as soon as you can. They have also been sent home with details of their part in the Christmas play. We will be rehearsing our play in the coming weeks ready for our performance!

Thank you all for your support today in bringing in sweets and prizes for the Christmas Fair next week.

 Have a lovely weekend,

Mrs Quraishy

Friday 12th November 2021

Dear all,

Year 2 have had another fantastic week. In Maths we have been learning how to add two two-digit numbers together by partitioning the numbers into tens and ones. In Science we have finished off our topic about Living Things and discussed the different parts of a plant that we can eat (seeds, roots, leaves, stalk, fruit and flower).

We have been practising writing long ladder letters this week in handwriting, making sure that they are taller than other letters in our words.

Have a great weekend!

Mrs Quraishy

Friday 5th November 2021

Dear all,

Year 2 have had a lovely first week back after half term. We have started learning about owls in English this week, sharing facts we already know about them and thinking about what we would like to find out. Do owls come from an egg? How fast can an owl fly? We have also been learning about the story behind Bonfire Night and who Guy Fawkes was.

In Maths we have been looking at number bonds to 10, 20 and 100. Today we started to use our knowledge of number bonds to add together two numbers over 10.

The children were tested on their spellings today which were sent home over half term – please help your child spend some time each day looking at their spellings and helping them to learn them for each Friday.

Have a lovely weekend and please enjoy the fireworks safely,

Mrs Quraishy

Friday 22nd October 2021

Dear all,

We have made it to half term! Year 2 have worked very hard this week and have had lots of fun. In Maths we have been counting in 2’s 3’s, 5’s and 10’s as well as looking at place value. In English we have been finishing our own versions of Troll Swap and have spent time editing our writing – a very tricky but useful skill to learn. In Science we have been learning about food chains, using the vocabulary ‘producer’ and ‘consumer’ to describe and identify how energy passes from one living creature to the next.

Your children have all been sent home with their weekly spellings to learn over half term. They will be tested on them the Friday we are back (Friday 5th November).

Every Friday your child will be given spellings to learn for the following Friday – please help them look at their spellings and practise them throughout the week.

I hope you have a very restful half-term,

Mrs Quraishy
