Roof theft and repairs

Just to update parents – unfortunately we had some lead stolen from our school roof recently and this caused a small amount of internal damage to the ceiling, particularly in Year 6.  The roof has been repaired now and so has all the internal damage.

Parents’ Evenings

Please remember that it is parents’ evenings this week.  Please book an appointment today if you have not already done so.  Online booking closes at 5pm today.  When you look at your children’s books, we hope you will be pleased with the progress they are making.  You will see a difference in how books are marked and how feedback is given in-line with our new marking and feedback policy.  Please ask your child’s classteacher about this if you have any questions.

Year 5 ‘Hope Journey’ at Helsby Methodist Church

Year 5 are walking to the Methodist Church on Tuesday to take part in the ‘Hope Journey’.  This is an event to commemorate Helsby’s involvement in the world wars.

Harvest week – collection for the local foodbank

Next week is our harvest week.  This includes harvest breakfasts – KS1 on Tuesday 23rd October and KS2 on Wednesday 24th October.  Details have been sent out about this.

Our harvest festival is on Thursday 25th October at 2pm in St Paul’s Church.  Each class will celebrate the harvest in their own special way!  Please do come along for what is always a lovely service.

As we celebrate the harvest time, we also think about those people less fortunate that us and who may need help.  Children are invited to bring in any dried or tinned food items which will be donated to the local foodbank.

Flu Immunisation

Children in Reception to Year 5 are being offered flu immunisation which is taking place in school on 15th November.  Consent letters have been sent home, please return to school asap.

Cross Country

The KS2 cross-country squad are running in the first of the WCAC races on Saturday at Ellesmere Port Sports Village.  Good luck everyone!

Sports Update

8 children from Y5/6 went to Helsby rugby club on Thursday for the tag rugby tournament.  Excellent team work and resilience were shown but unfortunately there were no medals this time.

Good luck to the Y3/4 tag rugby team who play in their tournament on Tuesday!

We have noticed that a number of girls are wearing quite elaborate headbands at the moment.  Recently one of these did cause an injury to a child’s head during a fall at playtime.  Please be aware of this and think carefully about whether the headband your child is wearing is suitable for school.  Please ask your child’s classteacher if you are unsure.

Friends of Hillside are organizing a Clothes Aid collection on 9th November. This is a great way to help worthy causes so please hang on to any pre-loved clothes you would like to donate - bags will be coming home with the children this week.

At the Friends of Hillside AGM on Monday 17th September the following new roles were appointed:

Stepping down was Davina (Chair) for a well-deserved rest – massive thanks to her for all her hard work and leaving us with big shoes to fill and all the best to Vikki who is doing a great job for us already 😊

FOH are having their next meeting on Monday 22nd October at 7pm in the School Staff Room. It’s a friendly meeting and a great chance to find out what’s going on. We share ideas, discuss and review events, have an update from the Treasury and generally have a nice chat about how we can continue to enhance every child’s experience at Hillside. Also, there’s biscuits. Please do come along if you can. Meetings generally last about 1 hour but you can leave at any time. We look forward to seeing you there.

Have a great week Hillside!
