Weekly Newsletter – 16 November 2020

Dear Parents and Carers

As always I have tried to keep the weekly newsletter as brief as possible.

Thanks everyone for your patience, kindness and support so far this term.

We have noticed that a number of parents are not wearing masks at pick up and are not social distancing. Please can we remind you that these rules must be followed at all times. Public Health have reminded us that adult to adult infection is the biggest risk in schools. We are trying really hard in school to minimise risk wherever possible so that we don’t have to close another bubble. Please help mitigate the risks. Thank you!

Can we also remind parents to arrive and collect promptly. Parents arriving too early is causing difficulties for staff and a number of children are arriving very late. Learning is starting straight away and these pupils are missing key learning including guided reading groups and targeted support.

Please note the times again:

Anti-bullying Week 16-20 November

This week is national anti-bullying week. At Hillside we talk to the children regularly about getting on with each other and how to deal with any fall outs or disagreements. We also discuss bullying so that the children know what bullying is and what to do if they feel unhappy or if someone is being unkind to them. Assemblies this week will focus on our anti-bullying message and our anti-bullying policy. We will use some of the resources from the anti-bullying alliance. To demonstrate our stance against any form of bullying everyone is invited to wear odd socks on Friday. This is to show every individual’s commitment that we will not tolerate bullying in our school. Thanks, as always, for your support.

Year 6 ‘Bikeability’

Year 6 start their ‘Bikeability’ sessions this week. Please note that Year 6 pupils will be bringing their bikes into school and will be storing them in the cycle area near the ‘link club’ door in the KS1 playground. Year 6 pupils and parents please note that bikes MUST NOT be ridden in the playground. Thank you.

Birthday celebrations

We are aware that the children are missing out on the chance to celebrate their birthdays with their friends at a birthday party. Pupils are encouraged to wear a birthday badge(s) to school on the day of their birthday. In many classes it has also become a bit of a tradition to bring in cakes or sweets for classmates when celebrating a birthday. This needs to be managed carefully due to the current guidance but can still be arranged. Please speak to your child’s classteacher to organise this. In this way, we hope that the children can still enjoy a special birthday with their friends!

Poppies and Remembrance Day

Thanks for all your support with the Poppy Appeal. The children were very excited about buying the snap bands, wrist bands and poppies! All monies donated went to the Poppy Appeal. Well done everyone!

Children in Need

Thanks for your support with Children In Need last Friday! All money raised will be sent to the BBC Children in Need appeal.

Kind regards

Craig Richardson
