Cinema Night

Thank you so much to everyone for your support with our cinema night.  The evening went very well and the childen all seemed to enjoy the film and extra time to socialise and play with their friends.  We are very sorry that some children were unable to come but we had to close the event as staffing arrangements and food had already been finalised.  Any feedback about the event would be appreciated, please let Mr Richardson or the office staff know or email admin@hillside.cheshire.sch.uk.  We raised a total of £545 which will go towards a new set of ipads in school.  FOH are also contributing £3,000 towards the ipads.  This means we can replace the original set of ipads which are now around six years old and enables us to provide the best IT provision we can for all our children.

Sports Days

Please remember that it is our Reception and KS1 Sports Day today (Monday 18th June) and our KS2 Sports Day on Wednesday 20th June. Both events are at the school field on Proffits Lane, where parking is available on the field, and starts at 1.30pm. All parents, grandparents and friends are welcome. Let’s hope that the weather is kind to us.

Sports update

There is lots of sport going on at the moment!

Cricket – well done to the KS2 cricket team who participated in the FAVSP kwik cricket tournament at Kingsley CC last Thursday. They came third and won bronze medals in a close event and played very well as a team, just missing out on a trip to the county finals.

Race for Life - we are holding our annual ‘Hillside Race for Life’ on Monday 25th June at 11am at the school field. We always support this event to raise funds for Cancer Research UK. Reception and KS1 pupils will run the 5km in a relay format and KS2 will then do the same with some cross country members then attempting to run the 5km. All children will receive medals. A letter with further details will be sent home this week. Donations can be sent in to school and all the money raised will go to Cancer Research UK.

Golf – good luck to the Y3/4 and Y5/6 golf squads who are competing in the FAVSP tri-golf events this week!

Tennis – well done to Mollie Kerr, Jess O’Neil, Leo Morphet and Isaac Doran who won the FAVSP mini-red tennis tournament last week. They are playing in the area finals at UCEA Ellesmere Port this Wednesday evening. Good luck to them all!

Gymnastics – Mrs Flynn is holding trials this week to select pupils to represent school in the area ‘Key Steps’ gymnastics competitions.

School Band and Choir

Good luck to the school choir and the school band who are performing at the Cheshire Show this week (Tuesday 19th June). We hope that they do well and enjoy their day at the show!

Year 6 windows

Just for your information, the staff car park will be closed this week as Multi glazing construction are on site to install new windows at the front of school. They are replacing the windows in Year 6 classroom. This forms part of our rolling programme of works to replace all the old windows in school.

New parent’s night

We held a very successful evening for our parents who are new to school with children joining the Reception class in September. We have lots of new families joining school which is great. We do still have some places so, if you know anyone who may be interested, please let me know. Thank you.

Y6 ‘Pound Grow’ next week

It is that time of year again! Y6 are currently working on their financial management project which culminates in two ‘pound-grow’ afternoons, next Tuesday 26th and Thursday 28th June. Y6 pupils will be informing school of products available/services on offer in an assembly next Monday (25th June). As always thank you for supporting this event.

Learning a musical instrument

If your child, (current Y1-Y5) is interested in trying a course of instrumental lessons at school, please visit www.musicforlife.org.uk/apply-now where you will find lots of information and be able to book a "taster" course online ready to start in September. Instrument lessons are provided by Music for Life - a not-for-profit music education service working in partnership with 130 schools to teach around 4,500 pupils every week across Cheshire, Wirral and North Staffordshire. To discover more about the work of Music for Life, please visit:

WEBSITE: musicforlife.org.uk
FACEBOOK: facebook.com/Musicforlife1234
TWITTER: twitter.com/MusicforLifeSCH
VIDEOS: musicforlife.org.uk/videos

It is important to note that anyone wishing to try a course of lessons in September needs to book before the end of this term (certainly before August) to be sure of a place when school reopens.

The cost of lessons can be spread over 12 months if required to help make things much more affordable, typically around £25 per month or less for most instruments for beginners (piano around £37 per month) and payment can be made by almost any debit, credit or pre-paid card. Full details about costs are available on the Music for Life website and can be viewed and confirmed before booking.

DATES FOR DIARY

FRIDAY 22nd June - Non Uniform Day

Friday 29th June - Summer Fair & Non Uniform Day

Saturday 28th July - Summer Camp on School Field. A letter will go out nearer the time.

Summer Fair Tokens

Great news Hillside! Our Summer fair will be token based again like last year. This is because of match funding from Barclays. Thank you so much to Mrs Fletcher Curran for arranging this with her Son. How it works: At the entrance, you will pay as normal but then pay for a bag of tokens to ‘spend’ around the fair. External stalls such as Mr Tee, Candyfloss, beer hero’s etc will be cash only. So please spread the word so that everyone knows. If you have any questions or unsure of anything, please email us! Thank you for your support.

Non Uniform Day

The first non uniform day is this Friday, in exchange for all classes to send in a jar of sweets to stock the sweet tombola stall. Every child wins on this stall so please don’t forget to send these in on Friday. Thank you so much!

Summer Fair Letters

If you’re able to help with our summer fair, can you please return the summer fair letter this week please? If you have misplaced the letter, please see our Facebook page for the details. We just need to gauge if we have enough cakes for a stall, raffle donations and enough helpers. Davina will be allocating and replying this week. Thank you!
