NSPCC

This Tuesday 20th November, NSPCC are in school supporting us with safeguarding systems and working with the children.  They are leading assemblies for Reception, KS1 and KS2 pupils and doing workshops with Y5 and Y6 pupils.  Next week, they are holding a workshop for parents at 2pm on Tuesday 27th in the school hall.

Parents wanting to speak to their child’s teacher

If you have any concerns at all about your child and their education, please arrange to speak to their class teacher.  Try and make an appointment by contacting the office.  If you need a quick word in a morning, please come into school through the office and not through the KS1 or KS2 doors.  This is very important and part of our safeguarding procedures.  Thank you for your assistance with this.

Year 6 Bikeability

Year 6 pupils who have signed up for Bikeability start their course this week.  This helps the children learn how to ride a bike proficiently and carefully.  The course starts with riding a bike in the playground before moving out onto the roads around school.  Children who demonstrate good proficiency and pass the level 2 award can cycle to school in the summer term (with parents’ permission).  Any queries or questions about the programme can be directed to Mr Richardson.

Christmas lunch

The children will be enjoying a school Christmas lunch on Wednesday 12th December!  Further details to follow. Thank you.

Parent workshops

Mrs Thomas is leading a reading workshop for Year 5 parents this Wednesday at 2pm in the school hall.  Details have been sent out to Y5 families.  Further workshops for all age groups will be available next term.

Sports update

Bronze Ambassador training - Anabel and Kyle in Year 6 have successfully completed their leadership and excellent sports role model training to become Bronze Ambassadors.  They will now help with organising intra-school’s competitions and help with PE in lessons!

KS1 Multi skills – Thursday 22nd November the whole of Year 2 are taking part in a non-competitive multi skills event at Frodsham Leisure Centre.

Headteacher’s Tea

Mr Richardson has been enjoying afternoon tea with pupils from different classes.  So far he has met pupils from Y2, 3 and 6 and will be meeting with all classes over the coming weeks.  The children enjoy a drink, some cake and fruit and share their work and chat about their learning.

Children in Need

Thank you so much for your generous donations to Children in Need on Friday.  We have sent £248.16 to the BBC charity.

Marshes Community Development Fund – running track

We are very pleased to announce that we have been successful in obtaining a grant from the ‘Marshes Community Development Fund’.  We have been awarded £7,123 which will go towards the cost of installing a running track around the perimeter of our site.  Thanks to Helsby Running Club and Helsby Parish Council for their letters of support which helped us in our successful bid.  Further updates about the running/walking track will follow soon.

Year 6 - £1 grow

Last year’s Year 6 raised money through their £1 grow initiative with which they bought a gift/legacy for the school of playground clocks and money for classroom visualizers, they also donated to the charity RSPCA a sum of £100.

HARVEST FOOD GIFT FROM HELSBY HILLSIDE SCHOOL

Thank you for your school's very generous donation of 167.8Kg of food which represents 480 meals provided to people in crisis.  We are very grateful for your support of the foodbank enabling us to have sufficient supplies for the need in our area.  We rely completely on schools, churches, organisations and individuals for both financial and food gifts so your support is extremely valuable to us.  Your gift at this special time of year will make an important difference to people who are struggling to put food on the table.  Thanks to all the children and staff for their kindness and thoughtfulness.

Colin Keiley, Foodbank Manager, Runcorn and District Foodbank.
