Car parking and driving safely

Thank you for your patience this week with the complications caused by the Old Chester Road closure.  Please can parents try not to block driveways and entrances.  We have received a request from a neighbour on Bates Lane whose drive is blocked every day.  An elderly relative lives in the property and access is required at all times.  Please park considerately.  Thank you.

Costume for History Day 5th July

Just a reminder that Friday 5th July is a non-uniform day and instead, children are asked to come to school dressed as a significant soul from the past.  Don't forget to bring in your facts about the person you have chosen.  Children in Reception and Year 1 to provide 1 fact, Year 2 and 3 to provide 2 facts and Years 4,5 and 6 to provide 3 facts (welcome to provide more!).

Staying safe in the sun

As the weather has improved, the children have been enjoying playing outside and trips to the field for sports activities and the assault course. As we have planned further activities outside, we are very aware of keeping everyone safe in the sun.  We have spoken to the children about making good choices when the weather is hot and spending time in the shade or inside and reminded them about the importance of applying sunscreen, drinking water and wearing a hat.  Please make sure that your child has sunscreen applied before school if hot weather is forecast, and has a water bottle and a hat in school.  Hopefully, we can enjoy a safe and sunny end to the school year.  Thanks again for your help with this.

Lunch at the field

We are planning on having lunch at the field again on Wednesday this week, following the race for life event.  Children should bring a packed lunch or one can be provided from school (£2.30 for KS2) , this will replace the usual lunch menu that day. Parents are welcome to stay.

Sports Days

Thank you for your support at last week’s sports days.  We were very lucky with the weather and received some lovely feedback.  We certainly have some talented young athletes!

In the annual parent survey some of you asked about holding sports days on the same day for KS1 and KS2.  Whilst it is not possible to fit everything in during one afternoon, we are looking at the possibility of completing everything on the same day with Reception and KS1 in the morning followed by a picnic lunch and then KS2 sports day in the afternoon.  Any feedback on this would be very much appreciated.

‘Music for Life’

Good luck to the band and choir members performing in a special ‘Music for Life’ concert at Helsby High School on Tuesday evening.  We hope you enjoy the rehearsals during the day and the performance in the evening!

Sports update

Tri Golf:-  The year 3/4 tri golf team played in the finals at Ellesmere Port Golf course on Thursday morning.  After some tough competition from 7 other schools, Hillside finished in a  respectable 3rd place.  A special thank you to John Spruce for all of his time he puts into helping coach the children.

Cheshire school games:- On Wednesday 10th July, some of Hillside’s sports teams will be representing our area after winning the inter school competition in the following events:- Y4 Mini red tennis team (Harry, Gemma, Molly and Conor), Nathaniel in Y6 will be competing as an individual gymnast and the Y6 boys orienteering team (Callum, Ali and Charlie).  Good luck to all the teams, such a massive achievement and we are very proud of all of the children!

Y1/2 football:- Good luck to the Y2 football team in their friendly match against Kingsley St Johns on Wednesday.  Kick off is 3.45pm and we aim to finish at 4.30pm at the school field. As a result, KS2 football club will be cancelled.

District Sports

Good luck to all the KS2 pupils representing Hillside at the FAVSP district sports on Wednesday evening at Kingsley CP school.

Learning a musical instrument - Reminder.

Don't forget, if your child would like to try a course of instrumental lessons in school you need to book them as soon as possible before the end of the summer term to be sure of getting a lesson place.  You will find lots of information here  http://www.musicforlife.org.uk/apply-now and lessons can then be booked on line, should you decide to do so. All new courses enjoy a 12 week taster period after which time you will be sent a report on progress and can decide whether to continue lessons, change course or cancel further lessons. Music for Life is a quality assured, not-for-profit organisation providing lessons to around 4,500 every week across Cheshire, Wirral and North Staffordshire that has twice been judged to be an "outstandingly effective" service which provides parents and schools with "outstanding value for money". Most questions should be answered by the Music for Life website here - www.musicforlife.org.uk/parents/faq - and you'll get a very good feel for what parents think of the service by visiting their facebook page here - https://www.facebook.com/Musicforlife1234 - but if you have any further questions, please contact them at admin@musicforlife.org.uk. Support with the cost of lessons may be available for families facing hardship; you'll see information about this on the website, but please contact Music for Life about this if you want to find out more.
