Weekly Newsletter – 28 September 2020

Dear Parents and Carers

As always I have tried to keep the weekly newsletter as brief as possible. The most important updates are highlighted in bold red font. As always, we value your feedback. If you have any questions or queries, please speak to me on the playground or telephone the school office to arrange an appointment.

We had all 209 pupils in school on Friday for the first time this year! A very positive sign that all the children are well! Let’s hope this continues!

From today, Monday 28 September:

  • All adults must wear their own face covering when visiting or entering the school premises including outdoor yard areas – this includes parents dropping off and collecting children please
  • Parents/carers to arrive and leave promptly when dropping off/collecting their child – please do not congregate and maintain social distancing as we know that the virus is easily transmitted from person to person
  • Parents and carers can enter the school premises for drop off and pick up, but please can only one adult enter and they should wear a face covering
  • All staff to wear face coverings when they come out onto the playground during drop off and pick up times
  • Young people to avoid congregating outside school and mixing with other schools and go directly home (this is particularly important for Year 6 pupils who may be walking home without a parent)

Thanks AGAIN for your continued patience with staggered start and finish times. We also appreciate your feedback and we are listening! To help us manage risk and also minimise disruption as much as we can for you and the children, we would like to change the timings for Reception and Year 2 so that Reception start at the later time of 9.05am and finish at 3.25pm and Year 2 start at the earlier time of 8.45am and finish at 3.05pm.

Parent progress evenings

Unfortunately, we cannot hold our usual parents’ evenings this term. However, we know that some of you will be keen to meet your child’s classteacher and that you may have questions for them about how your child has settled in to their new class.

Classteachers will shortly send you a link to a class ‘Zoom’ meeting. This meeting will provide classteachers with an opportunity to share class routines and expectations and to introduce themselves. Any parents who would then like an individual meeting will be able to book one by sending an email requesting either a phone call or a personal ‘Zoom’ meeting which the classteacher will then arrange.

School Meals

Please don’t forget that we are introducing a new menu from today, Monday 28 September. Full details are on the website. It looks great and we think that the children will like it. As always, any feedback is appreciated. Meals will now be served on plates, rather than disposable bags and trays, and eaten with a knife and fork.

Thursday is a special ‘Around the World’ menu. We would encourage everyone to have a meal on this day, especially those Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 pupils who are entitled to a free school meal. As well as looking like a very tasty meal, higher meal numbers on this day helps us with school meal finances!

Polite Reminder

Could we please ask parents not to come to school to drop off unnecessary items.

Year 6 parents – high school deadline

Please can Year 6 parents be aware that the deadline for applications for high school is 31 October 2020. If your child is due to start at high school next year you must get your application in on time as this will avoid any unnecessary difficulties next year.

After-school clubs

Thanks very much to everyone who has signed up for a club. Unless you have been informed otherwise, clubs start this week. Children doing a club can bring their kit to change into after school. Year 3 and Year 4 pupils have a taster session today for a Streetdance breakfast club which will be starting on Wednesday 7 October. Details will be sent home today.

Reverend Graeme Green in school

We were delighted to welcome Reverend Green back into school last week. Graeme led a whole school assembly which was watched by two classes in the hall and the rest of the school on Zoom. As always, the children loved the story! Thanks to Graeme as always. We look forward to welcoming him back soon. Please note that the church is open for services.

Bike to School Week
Next week is national Bike to School Week (28 September to 2 October), an event organised by Sustrans and supported by the Bikeability Trust, to celebrate cycling to school and the positive impact and active lifestyle can have on pupils’ health and wellbeing. Year 6 will be completing their Bikeability course week beginning 16 November – details to follow.

International Walk to School month

October is International Walk to School month, an opportunity for children to join hundreds of thousands of pupils across the globe celebrating the walk to school and the benefits it can have on their health and wellbeing. If possible, try and walk to school more than usually do. Or, try to ‘Park and Stride’ – park at St Paul’s church car park and walk the short distance to school.

Reminder: Open Days

We are pleased to announce to any parents with children starting school in Reception next year (September 2021) that we are holding two open evenings to replace our usual open days. These will be held on Tuesday 6 and Wednesday 7 October at 6pm. We will be maintaining social distancing throughout to ensure everyone’s safety. Please let anyone else you who you think may be interested know about these events. Thank you!

Reminder: School photos

We are pleased to be able to inform you that we have organised the individual children’s school photographs for Thursday 5 November. Unfortunately, it will not be possible to organise family group photos this year. Further details of how you can order the photos will be sent out shortly.

Reminder: ParentPay account

If you have not done so already, please activate your ParentPay account. This is important and makes payments and communication so much easier. If you are experiencing any difficulties, please contact the office or ParentPay direct.

I hope that you and your families continue to stay safe and well and look forward to seeing you around school soon!

Kind regards

Craig Richardson
