Interim Reports: Years 1-6

Your child’s interim report has been sent out today.  It provides you with a summary of your child’s effort and achievement so far this academic year.  We hope that you find it useful and that it informs you of how your child is getting on.  There will be an opportunity to discuss the report at parent progress evening’s this week.  Any questions about the report can be directed to Mr Richardson.  Thank you.

We do not feel an interim report is appropriate at this stage for Reception children.  We prefer to spend time during parent progress evenings to discuss your child’s progress and development.

Maths Masterminds

Well done to the Hillside ‘Big Maths’ team of Isaac Doran, Alex Hampson, Abbie Shingler and Eve Phillips who won the FAVSP ‘Big Maths’ competition last week at Helsby High School.  A great achievement!

Sporting success

A terrific well done to the Hillside netball teams who participated in the FAVSP netball tournament last week at Frodsham Leisure Centre.  Hillside sent three teams and everyone tried really hard.  Also, Mrs Porter and Mrs Moore were delighted with the effort, endeavour and team work in all three teams!  Well done to the ‘A’ team who won the tournament, the ‘B’ team who came second and the ‘C’ team who finished fifth of the eight teams.  Quite a result.  Good luck to the ‘A’ team who now go on to represent FAVSP at the area finals in Ellesmere Port later this month!

Choir – Young Voices

Well done to the school choir who performed so well at the Young Voices event at Manchester Arena last week.  Everyone had a fantastic time!  Thanks to Mrs Fletcher-Curran, Mrs Porter and Lynn Portis for accompanying the children.

Progress Evening’s

We do hope that you find this week’s parent progress evening’s useful.  Teachers will provide parents with an update on how their child is doing in class currently.  They will discuss pupils’ progress, their achievement and effort, and their personal development and wellbeing.  Please ask any questions that you may have and discuss any concerns or worries (however small they may seem).  Thank you.

‘Inside Out’ Day

This Thursday we are celebrating ‘Inside Out’ Day.  This is a national event and part of Mental Health Week.  The aim of the day is to raise awareness of metal health issues and to remind everyone to always be kind and think of others as no one knows how another person may be feeling.  Children and staff (and parents!) are invited to wear an item of clothing inside out to show their support.  Children can come to school in their own clothes.    We are also asking every child to share a statement of affirmation (e.g. I treat myself and others with kindness) on a piece of heart shaped card.  These will be supplied by school on Monday and collected during the week.  We hope to create a display for the whole school community to enjoy and feel proud of. (Please see attached examples of positive affirmations if you are struggling for ideas). Classes will also be discussing mental health as part of their ‘My Happy Mind’ activities and ‘Relationships and Health Education’.

Reminder: If you have not signed up to the ‘Parent App’ for My Happy Mind, please do so.  Just search in the App store or in Google Play or visit myhappymind.org.  Thank you.

Smart Survey

The local authority have a survey (LCWIP) ongoing at the moment in reference to improving cycling, walking and running in and around Frodsham and Helsby.

As a school, we would like to support any developments that may improve the health and wellbeing of our children and the wider community.

We are therefore encouraging as many of you as possible to take part in the survey. You can access the survey using the following link:

The closing date for the survey is the 13 February 2020

Special Lunch-Build a Burger Day

There is a special lunch on Thursday 13th February ‘Build a Burger Day’.  The children will have a choice of a chicken or veggie burger in a bun. They will then have the choice to add their own toppings.  The toppings available will be cheese, bacon, salad and sauce.  The option to choose a jacket potato on the day is also available. The full menu is displayed on our notice boards.
