Welcome back

A warm welcome back to everyone!  We hope that you have enjoyed a good summer and that the children have enjoyed a restful and exciting break and that they are ready for the new term!  A special welcome to all our new Reception families.  We hope that the children enjoy a smooth start to school and that they settle in quickly.  If you have any concerns or any queries, however small, please ask your child’s classteacher or Mr Richardson.

Emergency contacts

The government’s new guidelines for ‘Keeping Children safe in Education 2018’ remind us that schools must have at least two emergency contacts in case of an emergency.  Please make sure that you have provided us with this information and let us know immediately if your phone numbers, address or other personal details change.  Thank you.

Open Days

For children ready to start school in September 2019 we are holding open days on Monday 8th October starting at 1.30pm and Friday 12th October starting at 9.30am. Please let any friends or family know who may wish to attend to contact the school office.

Feedback policy

We are trialling a new feedback policy this term.  We are keen to ensure that we provide our children with the best possible feedback so that they know exactly how to improve their work and so that they know what they need to do to achieve good outcomes.  More information will be available soon but we are excited about the new ways of working and look forward to sharing this with you.  In the meantime, if you would like more information or have any questions, please ask Mr Richardson.

Clubs and extra-curricular activities

Information about all our extra-curricular activities will be sent out with the newsletter next Monday.  In last year’s parent survey a number of parents requested more clubs and options for KS1 pupils and so we have tried to accommodate this.  All clubs will start week beginning 17th September.  Thank you, as always, for your support with this.

GDPR request for consent

A reminder if you haven’t done so already, please return the new ‘request for consent’ form in relation to use of your child’s image in school, which was issued last term. If we do not receive it, we cannot assume you agree and therefore your child may miss out. Please contact the office if you need another copy.

One way system

Can parents and any family members/friends dropping and collecting children from school, please try and adhere to the one-way system, entering through Bates Lane and exiting via the Old Chester Road. It is voluntary but does really help ease congestion and improve traffic flow and safety on the roads around school.

Polite Reminders

Lunch accounts - For KS2 children who have school meals, a reminder that meals must be paid for in advance via ParentPay, so please ensure any arrears are cleared and your child’s lunch account is in credit. A school meal now costs £2.30 per day/£11.50 per week. Automated alerts can be set up in ParentPay so you can receive texts or free email reminders when the balance reaches a level of your choice. Go to Profile, Alert Settings. Please contact the office if you have any issues regarding payment.

Medication - If it is essential that your child has medicine during the school day, including non-prescribed/’over the counter’ medicines, a consent form to administer medicines must be completed, which is available from the school office. Prescribed medicine must be in the original container and have a pharmacist’s label with your child’s name, dosage and instructions clearly printed. All medicines must be handed to a member of staff.

Term time absence - If your child is absent for any reason other than illness or a medical appointment, a request for a leave of absence form must be completed, which is available from the school office. This must be reviewed by Mr Richardson prior to any holiday/time off.  Please provide as much notice as possible. Headteachers are only empowered to approve a leave of absence when it is requested in advance by the parent or carer with whom the child resides and when circumstances of the requested leave are ‘exceptional’. If the leave is not authorised, Cheshire West and Chester council will be informed and Fixed Penalty Notices may be issued irrespective of when the request was made which is not considered to be exceptional in circumstances. The current penalties payable by parents are £60 when the penalty is paid within 21 days and £120 when the penalty is paid within 28 days.  This penalty is per parent/carer per child.
