Weekly Newsletter – 5 October 2020

Dear Parents and Carers

As always I have tried to keep the weekly newsletter as brief as possible. The most important updates are highlighted in bold red font.

Thank you for your support with wearing face-coverings when dropping off and collecting from school. This extra precaution can only help us stay safe.

Parent progress evenings

Thank for booking a parent progress evening appointment. We do hope that you find the meetings useful and that they help us work closely together in supporting all our children in achieving their very best in school.

Reminder: Year 6 parents – high school deadline

Please can Year 6 parents be aware that the deadline for applications for high school is 31 October 2020. If your child is due to start at high school next year you must get your application in on time as this will avoid any unnecessary difficulties next year.

The high school shared some more information with us last week and Kr Khan has now passed this on to parents. If you have any worries or concerns regarding the transition to high school, please contact school.

Health eating

We have noticed that a number of children are bringing crisps and other unhealthy items for their snack at morning break time. Please remember our healthy eating policy and to stick to fruit or a healthy snack at break time. Thank you!

Harvest celebrations

The children are enjoying singing our favourite harvest songs such as ‘Harvest Samba’ and ‘Conkers’ already! We are keen to try and celebrate the harvest even given the current difficulties. We are going to hold our harvest breakfasts but this year teachers will provide the food and drinks. Dates for your diary: Tuesday 13 October: Y1/2 harvest breakfast; Wednesday 14: Y3/4; Thursday 15: Y5/6; Friday 16: Reception. Classteachers will provide further details this week.

As usual we will be collecting food items for ‘Save the Family’ and their food bank. Items can be sent in on Wednesday 14 October. Please give generously for this very worthwhile local charity. Parents who prefer to send in money can do so in an envelope marked ‘Save the Family’. Any queries, please contact the school office.

Panto cancelled

Unfortunately, but not surprisingly, our annual trip to the panto at The Brindley theatre has been cancelled this year.

After-school clubs

Thanks very much to everyone who has signed up for a club. Apologies for any confusion regarding collection from clubs. From this week, for all clubs collection will be from the KS1 playground.

Reminder: International Walk to School month

October is International Walk to School month, an opportunity for children to join hundreds of thousands of pupils across the globe celebrating the walk to school and the benefits it can have on their health and wellbeing. If possible, try and walk to school more than usually do. Or, try to ‘Park and Stride’ – park at St Paul’s church car park and walk the short distance to school.

Reminder: Open Days this week!

We are pleased to announce to any parents with children starting school in Reception next year (September 2021) that we are holding two open evenings to replace our usual open days. These will be held on Tuesday 6 and Wednesday 7 October at 6pm. We will be maintaining social distancing throughout to ensure everyone’s safety. Please let anyone else you who you think may be interested know about these events. Parents must book a time slot (either 6pm or 6.30pm) and can’t just turn up on the night. Thank you!

I hope that you and your families continue to stay safe and well and look forward to seeing you around school soon!

Kind regards

Craig Richardson
