Welcome back and Happy New Year!

A warm welcome back to all our pupils, parents, grandparents and friends.  We hope that you all had a lovely Christmas and that Santa visited and everyone enjoyed their Christmas diner.  We hope that the children are looking forward to an exciting term ahead.  Thank you, as always, for your support with listening to children read, learning times tables and homework!

Extra-curricular school clubs

Information about this terms before/after school clubs will be sent out later this week. Most clubs and activities will start from next week, with the exception of Choir which starts this week on 8th January and some clubs run by external providers will start later in the month, details to follow.

School meals

KS2 Parents - Please check your child’s account on ParentPay and if meals are owing from last term please ensure the arrears are cleared immediately. Please contact the office if you have any issues with payment.

Polite Reminders

Medication - If it is essential that your child has medicine during the school day, including non-prescribed/’over the counter’ medicines, a consent form to administer medicines must be completed, which is available from the school office or the school website, under Our School, Policies and Forms. Medicine must be in the original container and have a pharmacist’s label with your child’s name, dosage and instructions clearly printed. All medicines must be handed to a member of staff.

Term time absence - If your child is absent for any reason other than illness or a medical appointment, a request for a leave of absence form must be completed in advance, available from the school office. Please provide as much notice as possible. Headteachers are only empowered to approve a leave of absence when it is requested in advance by the parent or carer with whom the child resides and when circumstances of the requested leave are ‘exceptional’. If the leave is not authorised, Cheshire West and Chester council will be informed and Fixed Penalty Notices may be issued irrespective of when the request was made which is not considered to be exceptional in circumstances. The current penalties payable by parents are £60 when the penalty is paid within 21 days and £120 when the penalty is paid within 28 days.  This penalty is per parent/carer per child.

Mrs MacCready

Congratulations to Mrs MacCready who has been successful in her application for the position of School Business Manager at a high school in Northwich. She will be leaving Hillside this Friday 10th January. We wish her all the very best in her new job and would like to take this opportunity to thank her for everything she has done at Hillside.  Mr Richardson and governors are working hard to appoint a new school business manager and will announce the successful applicant very soon. Mrs Tregilgas will be covering the office.

My Happy Mind

As you are aware, we are using an app called ‘My Happy Mind’ to deliver sessions to all classes about how to stay healthy mentally.  This is an ever more important issue facing young people today and we feel that ‘My Happy Mind’ is a great way of helping children stay healthy mentally.  As parents, you can now access the ‘My Happy Mind’ app for parents for free – please download it now so that you can support your child’s mental health education.  Thank you.

We hope you all had a fabulous festive break and are ready for a fun filled term ahead. We’re already planning for this year’s activities to help raise as much as we can for our Hillsiders! If you have any fundraising ideas or would like to get involved contact us – we'd love to hear from you.

If you received any unwanted Christmas gifts such as toiletries, socks, gift sets etc. we'll put them to good use for future fayres and raffles. Please pass them to one of the FOH team or drop them at reception.

The Christmas jumper stall went down a storm at the Christmas Fayre so before you pack this year’s away, if you have any outgrown or unwanted jumpers please pass them on and we’ll store them ready for next time.
