Sports Update

Cheshire Games: good luck to Nathaniel Caldwell (gymnastics), Molly, Conor, Harry and Gemma (tennis Y4) and Charlie, Ali and Callum (orienteering) who have all qualified to represent our area on Wednesday in Warrington.  Thank you to Mrs Caldwell and Mrs Fulton for helping with transport and attending the event.  Thank you as well to Miss Frommert.

After school clubs cancelled

Please note that, due to staff training and meetings, cross country, cricket club and multi skills are cancelled this week.  Apologies for any inconvenience caused.

Annual Reports

Please remember that your child’s annual school report will be given out tomorrow, Tuesday 9th July.  This will include a summary of the level they are working at – whether this at the expected level for their age or whether they are working above or below this.  It will also include a series of effort grades.  If you have any queries regarding your child’s report, please discuss the report with your child’s classteacher during our open evening on Tuesday 16th July, 3.30-6pm or make an appointment.  Thank you.  We hope that you find the reports useful and informative.

French Days

As the Tour de France gets underway and France is preparing for its national holiday, Bastille Day, we will be holding some French days in school this week where we will look at French culture and practise some of the language. There will also be a French café at morning break on Wednesday for Key Stage One and on Thursday morning for Key Stage Two - a variety of French themed snacks and a drink will be available for the children to buy (50p).

Changeover Day

We wish our Y6 pupils who are transitioning to Helsby High well for their transition days at Helsby high School this Thursday and Friday.  We hope that the other pupils in Y6 moving on to other local schools enjoy their transition days.

Good luck to everyone else for ‘Changeover Day’ on Friday.  All children will get the chance to spend a day in their class for September and meet their teacher(s).  This always proves to be a useful part of the transition process and helps reassure the children and settle any worries or nerves.  If, after the ‘changeover day’, you have any concerns or questions, please pop in and talk to the teacher(s).  Thank you.

Sweets and healthy snack - reminder

Please can all parents remember that sweets and chocolate are not allowed in school and must not be brought in for break or lunch time.  This is part of our healthy schools policy.  We have noticed a number of children with sweets recently and wanted to make sure that everyone was aware of this.  If children are bringing in a snack at break time it should be a healthy one.  Also, lunch boxes should not include ‘unhealthy’ items such as sweets or chocolate bars.

Miss Frommert

We are sorry to inform you that Miss Frommert will be leaving Hillside at the end of term.  Miss Frommert has been a terrific part of the Hillside team and played a big part in our sporting activities over the last two years.  This has been a successful time in PE with our Platinum School Games Award and highlights including last week’s triumph for Hillside in the FAVSP district sports.  We are, however, delighted that Miss Frommert has chosen to further her career by enrolling on a teaching qualification for September.  Thank you Miss Frommert and all the very best in your career development!
