Afternoon breaktime in KS2

For the next few weeks, teachers in KS2 are trialling working through the afternoon with no break time.  This is to maximise learning time in the afternoons and enable teachers to deliver ‘guided reading’ sessions.  We have found this year, particularly with supporting our most able readers in achieving their highest levels, that we need to make sure we are teaching children the inference and deduction skills they need in order to answer the more complex questions.  Delivering a quality ‘guided reading’ session from 1.05pm until 1.30pm will be part of this.

On Tuesday and Thursdays, KS2 classes will not have a formal break from 2.05pm until 2.15pm.  However, teachers will of course provide pupils with a refreshment/comfort break.  We hope that this trial goes well and will communicate with parents and pupils again later this term to help inform a decision about whether this is something we want to continue with.

Sports Days

We hope that the weather is kind to us and that everyone enjoys our sports days!

Hillside Race for Life

Please note that we are holding our first ‘Hillside Race for Life’ on Wednesday morning.  KS2 pupils are starting their 5k walk at the field at 9.30am followed by KS1 pupils around 10am.  After this, the ‘elite’ cross country squad (13 runners) will run 20x250m laps of the field to complete our race for life.  Donations to Cancer Research UK can be sent in on the day.  Parents are most welcome to come and watch some or all of the events.  Thank you for your support as always.

Playing with the Halle

Good luck to the school band members who are performing in a concert with the Halle orchestra at the Bridgewater Hall in Manchester this week.  We hope they enjoy the experience!

Bible Explorer Assembly

There is an assembly on Thursday 26th at 10am to celebrate the work completed by Ruth Basden.   Parents from Y5 & 6 are most welcome.
