Year 6 SATs

We are very proud of how hard our Year 6 pupils have worked this year and wish them all the best in their SATs tests this week. We hope they enjoy their toast and juice at our special breakfast club and are able to do their best. As with all assessments and tests in school we strive to make sure that our pupils do not feel pressurised and try to minimise any anxiety. Hopefully we will get the right balance encouraging pupils to do their best and yet still enable them to feel confident and calm.

Royal Wedding picnic lunch

This Thursday the whole school is celebrating the royal wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle by enjoying a picnic outside (weather permitting). Picnic lunch will include a selection of sandwiches, cheese and tomato pizza slice, cocktail sausages, carrot batons, crisps, shortbread crown and a drink is available on the school menu and ordered as usual on the day (no jacket potato option will be available) or children can bring their own packed lunch.

Parent survey

Thanks to those parents who have already completed the survey. If you haven’t done so already, please complete it online using the link here Fill out form or it can be accessed via the ‘our news section on the school website home page or please ask the office for a paper copy. The deadline for completion is Friday 18th May. Thank you!

Poetry recital competition

We have been very impressed with the efforts of the children to learn and recite a favourite ‘world’ or ‘football’ poem. We have had some great performances in the class competitions. Winners from each class are currently being decided and the grand final is now to be held on Monday 21st May at 10.15am in the school hall. Parents are warmly invited to attend this assembly. All finalists will receive a certificate (as will the best listeners) and winners will win a £10 book token. Good luck everyone!

Cinema night

A reminder that we are holding a ‘Cinema Night’ for pupils only on Thursday 14th June from 3.15pm until 7pm. The film is yet to be confirmed but we’ll ensure it is appropriate and appeals to as many children as possible. The evening will include food (hot dog), drinks, popcorn and some treats. Total cost £5. If your child would like to attend please confirm by making payment via ParentPay or cash to the school office by Friday 25th May.

Helsby library

Year 3 are visiting Helsby library again this Wednesday morning. Ian Anstice from Helsby library will be coming in to school on Friday 6th July to lead an assembly about this year’s ‘Summer Reading Challenge’. This is always something we support in school and would encourage all children to get involved if they can. Any questions about this, please ask Mr Richardson.

School Sports Coordinator

Anyone interested in the role of SSCo for FAVSP should check out details on the Helsby High School website. The closing date id Friday 18th May at 9am. Anyone interested can get further details from Mr Richardson.

History Day

The whole school will be taking part in London History Schools Day 2018 on May 25th. This is an opportunity for children to focus on the extraordinary events in our history, understanding how important it is to learn about the past and how it can shape our future.

In addition, 2018 marks the centenary of the Representation of the People Act through which women first won the right to vote in the UK. To recognise this moment in history, we will be running our own election at Helsby Hillside. Our school councillors shall be campaigning and every pupil will take a trip to our very own polling station to make their vote count.

Sports update

Reception mini kickers-An excellent afternoon of fun and sport was had by our Reception mini kickers last Thursday! 2 teams represented Hillside in the FAVSP 5 a side tournament – red (1st) and blue (2nd) teams. Mr Richardson and Miss Frommert were amazed by Hillside’s youngest footballers, finishing 1st and 2nd! Well done on your first ever competition!

Next week, the KS2 cricket team play in the FAVSP kwik cricket tournament at Frodsham CE. Good luck everyone!

We are overwhelmed with joy at how much the Children love the new KS1 Grass area. It’s so popular, there’s now a rota in place for everyone to get a turn. This is what we are all about. We fundraise to try and give our Children the best and enhance their experience at Hillside. It really is a delight to watch them play and enjoy their new area. Thank you once again everyone. Be proud! We ALL achieved that together! Thank you!
