Coronavirus Update

With the government having moved from the ‘containment’ to the ‘delay’ phase of its plan to tackle the coronavirus outbreak, we wanted to keep you up to date with plans we have made in the event of a closure of school. Whilst we hope to be able to continue as normally as possible, this may not be possible in the coming weeks.

Since the outbreak began we have monitored and followed guidelines provided by Public Health England. At present we are not aware of any link within school to the COVID-19 virus. The advice is currently to stay open as normal, which we are doing, with extra hygiene measures put into place.

In the event of a closure, our priority would be to attempt to provide some continuity of learning and support for all of our pupils.

Possible School Closure

Recent government instruction that anyone who starts “a new, continuous cough or high temperature should self-isolate for 7 days” raises the possibility that there may be a time when the school will not have enough members of staff on site to run a full school.

Please be reassured that the school will do everything it can to prevent having to close to pupils as we fully appreciate the impact on their families of having to do so. It may be that in order to stay open we need to make changes to timetables and learning activities and I thank you in advance for your understanding if, in order to stay open, we have to make changes which will inevitably temporarily reduce the effectiveness of the education we provide.

If a decision made at national, regional or local level requires a full closure of the school then teaching staff, who would be working from home in accordance with that decision, will use our school website to provide learning activities for pupils. These activities will be quality-assured by senior leaders and will follow our planned schemes of learning as closely as possible.

We will also be keeping parents and carers informed of any updates via e-mail and through regular updates on the website.

This Week

In line with current advice, our plans for this week are currently unchanged, including the Year 2 residential to Beeston.

What you should do

If your child is displaying the signs and symptoms, the government instruction is that anyone who starts “a new, continuous cough or high temperature should self-isolate for 7 days”. We appreciate that this is difficult in a family home and ask that all siblings remain off school as a precaution. Please let school know if this is what you are doing.

Thank you in advance for your understanding and support as parents/carers with all of the above, particularly if the possibility of a school closure is realised. We hope this information provides reassurance in the form of the school’s plans and determination to support our families at this very difficult time. As always, please do not hesitate to contact school if you have any queries or concerns regarding any of the above at any stage.

Year 2 Beeston residential

We hope that our Year2 pupils enjoy their overnight trip to Beeston this Tuesday and Wednesday!  We look forward to hearing all about it when the children return to school.

Sports Update

Well done to the Year 2 team who represented Hillside at the Everton mini-kickers football tournament in Frodsham last week!  The team performed brilliantly and won bronze medals!  Well done!

Road Safety

As part of our efforts to increase the children’s road safety awareness our Junior Safety Officers are working with our PCSO this Tuesday using the speed gun.  They will be checking vehicles are adhering to the 20mph speed limit on Bates Lane and the 30mph limit on Chester Road.

Can we also remind parents to drive carefully and considerately and to adhere to the voluntary one-way system we operate on Bates Lane.  This makes such a difference.  Thank you.

Thank you so much for your generous donations for the Easter bingo.  We really do appreciate your generosity.  Thank you.
