Weekly Newsletter – 19 April 2021

Dear parents and carers

Welcome back!

I hope that you all enjoyed a restful and relaxing Easter break and that the children were able to enjoy some sunshine and recharge their batteries ready for an exciting summer term ahead!

After welcoming all pupils back into school on 8 March we have been pleased overall with where the children are at in their learning. However, inevitably there are some gaps in learning and teachers and teaching assistants are working hard to help the children overcome these and to support them in continuing to make progress. The live lessons delivered during ‘lockdown’ have certainly helped us deliver our curriculum and we feel in a good place to try and get through the rest of our curriculum before the year ends.

To help us understand the children’s attainment, we will be undertaking some assessments later this term and will provide a summary of these for you in an end of year report which will be sent out during the week beginning 5 July. I will confirm details of parent progress meetings soon. These will provide you with the opportunity to meet with your child’s classteacher and discuss progress and how your child is getting on.

Sophie Ecclestone visit

We are delighted that England cricketer and former Hillside pupil Sophie Ecclestone is visiting us on Friday. Sophie will speak to children in KS2 about playing cricket for England and about her memories of being a pupil at Hillside. Please note the change of date from Tuesday. Please can all forms be completed and returned by Thursday.

Safety in the sun

As the weather improves (hopefully!), we are aware that we all need to stay safe in the sun. We will be teaching pupils about this in school but I have also attached some guidance around sun safety. Remember these simple safety tips:

• Keep your top on! Cover up by wearing appropriate light weight, long sleeve clothing.

• Wear a hat!

• Stay in the shade whenever possible, especially during breaks!

• Use a high-factor sunscreen!

• Drink plenty of water to avoid dehydration!

Residential visits

We are delighted that, if all continues to go well, we can go ahead with our residential visits to Tattenhall (Year 4) 8- 10 June, Burwardsley (Year 2) 14-15 June (please note the change of venue for this year as the Beeston Centre is closed) and Minydon (Year 6) 12-16 July.

The school office will be in touch soon but please make sure that all balances are paid for by the date given.

Tesco Colouring Competition!

Helsby Tesco are organising a colouring competition for the best ‘Spring’ themed picture. The pictures chosen will win a prize and some of the pictures handed in will be used to decorate the Tesco community board at the front of the store. Any entries can be dropped off at the Tesco customer service desk. The competition will run until 30th April 21. If you have any questions, please contact Janine at Tesco. Good luck!

Reminder: It is still very important that we adhere to government guidance regarding social distancing and staying safe. After dropping off or collecting your child(ren), please leave quickly and do not hang around to speak to other parents.

Thanks very much everyone. Please take care and stay safe. Kind regards.
