Welcome back

Welcome back everyone!  We hope that the children enjoyed a good rest and a nice break.  We are looking forward to an exciting half-term with highlights including the Y2 and Y4 residentials to Beeston and Tattenhall and the FOH discos and Easter bingo night!  The annual Delamere Forest cross country races are also coming up on Friday 22nd March – more details will follow for cross country club members.

Parent workshops

We have received some excellent feedback from the Year 4 parent workshops on reading and reasoning (maths).  Parents commented that the workshops were really helpful and informative.  The next series of workshops are for Y3 and Y2.  Please put these dates in your diary:-

            Year 3: Reading 26th March; Reasoning 28th March, 2pm in Y3 classroom

            Year 2: Reading 23rd April; Reasoning 25th April, 2pm in Y2 classroom

Join your child for lunch day

A reminder to KS2 parents that you are invited to come and have lunch with your child on Wednesday 6th March, cost £2.30 per meal. World Book Day: Thursday 7th March

As usual, we will be celebrating World Book Day next week.  The children will all receive a £1 book token to spend on a special book.  All the children are invited to dress up as a favourite book character if they wish.  Please can they bring in a favourite book to talk about in class and share with their friends.

After school clubs

All clubs are continuing this half term. In addition, Mrs Potts is starting an after school basketball club for years 4,5 & 6 on Thursdays from 7th March. Separate letters will be coming home this week so if your child is interested please complete and return to school asap.

Running track

We are delighted with the works to install our new running track!  We now need lines marking for the playground sections and some rain to harden the other sections!  We are going to hold a ‘Grand Opening’ of the track on Thursday 28th March at 9.30am.  Parents and friends are invited to join us if you can.  Thank you.

After the success of the last collection, Friends of Hillside have organised another Clothes Aid collection to take place at the school.  Hopefully everyone received their Clothes Aid bags before half-term but if not a bin bag or anything will do! The collection date is Friday 1st March – please drop off your bags full of adults and children’s clothes, paired shoes, bags and accessories to school on Friday morning by 9am. The more clothes we receive the more money we make for the school as well as helping a worthy cause so please donate! Thank you

Helsby Hillside’s School Disco is on Thursday 7th March. Timings are 6.00pm – 7.00pm for KS1 and 7.15pm – 8.15pm for KS2. Entry is £2.50 and includes a hotdog and a drink AND we are introducing a small “tuck shop” where sweets and snacks can be purchased. We also have a parents’ only room with tea, coffee and biscuits for Mums and Dads to wait for the kids in peace! Please do reach out to us using the contact details below if you can help at all on the night – it’s a popular event and volunteers are always very welcome.

FOH are having their next meeting tonight, Monday 25th February at 7pm in the School Staff Room. It’s a friendly meeting and a great chance to find out what’s going on and help to be more involved in your child’s experience at the school. We will be discussing the upcoming disco, Mother’s Day and Easter and we would love your help and input. We trade help for biscuits! Please do come along if you can. Meetings generally last about 1 hour but you can leave at any time. We look forward to seeing you there.

Have a great week Hillside!
