Year 5 Parent workshop-maths

Mrs Thomas is leading another workshop for parents this Wednesday at 2pm.  This time the focus is maths and developing reasoning skills.  Do please try and attend if you can. There will be an opportunity to work with your children and help them with their maths.  We are trying a 2pm start for these year group meetings to try and offer a different time for people as a number of our evening workshops have been poorly attended.  We will continue to try this for the other classes.  Please remember that the resources used will be available for parents who can’t make it – please ask your child’s class teacher.

Pupil absence

A reminder to please contact school before 9am if your child is going to be absent due to illness or a medical reason. Please continue to keep school regularly informed if the absence is ongoing. A request for a leave of absence form must be completed and reviewed by Mr Richardson if you wish your child to have time off for any other reason.

The choir are singing at Loxley Hall old people’s home this Thursday afternoon.  This is part of their efforts to make a positive contribution to our community.

LEGO brick hospital

Thank you to you everyone for your help and support with our charity work to support the LEGO brick hospital! Seeing the children placing their LEGO bricks on the amazing model over the two days was wonderful! Overall we bought & placed 297 bricks which is fantastic! Together with the support of Hornsmill school, the scouts and Ho Ho Helsby, Helsby village will have made a significant contribution to the cancer charity! Further updates will follow throughout the year! Thank you to everyone for your generosity & for taking such an interest in the charity and our work.

Sports Update

8 girls from Y5/6 represented Hillside in a cluster football tournament last week. The girls played incredibly well as a team, making it through to the semi-final play offs. After a tough battle the opposition scored a last minute goal making it 1-0 meaning Hillside finished in 4th position overall out of 16 teams. Well done girls!

Well done to the 15 play leaders who passed their training and received their play leader passport ready to organise fulfilled lunchtimes with our new playground equipment.

Parent Governor Vacancy

Louise Rowlands, Chair of Governors, has now been co-opted to the governing body and so this has created a vacancy for a parent governor. We are required therefore to invite nominations for election to the Governing Body for a four-year period. Nominations should be made no later than Friday 14th December.

Candidates must be the parent of a registered pupil at our school at the time of the election and must agree to being nominated. Each nomination must be supported by a proposer and a seconder who may be the husband or wife of the candidate. A parent may not propose or second more than one candidate in any one election. If more than one nomination is received, an election will be held w/c 7th January 2018. Candidates may therefore wish to provide a statement in support of your nomination, in no more than 100 words, which will be sent to parents with the ballot papers. If you are interested please contact Mrs MacCready in the school office for further details and/or a nomination form.
