Weekly Newsletter – 4 January 2021

Dear Parents and Carers

Happy New Year!

I hope that you were able to enjoy a peaceful, relaxing and safe Christmas. On behalf of all the staff, please can I wish you all the very best for 2021. Let’s hope that this year is an improvement on 2020 and we can all return to a ‘new normal’ at some point. In the meantime, please take care of yourselves and your families, stay safe and follow all government and local PHE guidance.

As always, I have tried to keep the weekly newsletter as brief as possible. Please try to take note of everything in the newsletter as it contains important information and updates.

Parent governor

We have two new vacancies for the position of parent governor at Hillside. The position of parent governor is a commitment but it can also be very rewarding and worthwhile.

Governors meet once a term as a full group and also meet in one of three committees once a term. Meetings last between one and two hours and are currently held virtually. Governors provide support and challenge for school leaders and the headteacher and play an important role in the running of the school. Hillside currently has a very effective governing body. Governors are looking forward to working with the leadership team to help the school continue to move forward and improve.

Any parent who is interested in the role and would like to know more or discuss this further, please contact the office or speak me either before or after school. Please complete a nomination form before Friday 15 January at 12pm. If we receive more than two nominations then we will hold an election. Thank you.

Pupils who are absent through ill health

We have received a small number of requests for work to be sent home for a pupil who is absent from school through sickness. It is not possible to do this. If a pupil is not well enough for school, they should not be completing school work. Teachers are busy preparing to teach for the day and have not got the capacity to respond to late requests from parents. Thank you for your understanding.

Reminder: One-way system

I have noticed a large number of cars travelling the wrong way down Bates Lane. Please can parents follow our voluntary one-way system up Bates Lane. Whilst traffic is lighter with the staggered timings, we have continued to have problems and congestion. If everyone drives up Bates Lane from Chester Road it does make things so much easier. Thank you for your help with this.

Kind regards

Craig Richardson
