Welcome back

A warm welcome back to everyone! We hope that you and the children enjoyed the good weather during the half-term holiday and that the children are looking forward to an exciting half-term with highlights including sports days and picnics at the field!

This Thursday, the whole school will enjoy a picnic at the field and have time to play on the grass and enjoy the extra space. We hope that the children will enjoy their lunchtime and afternoon. Packed lunches can be brought in from home or are available from the school kitchen (cheese, ham or tuna sandwich options), to be ordered and paid for as usual. The usual menu/hot meal options for that day will therefore not be available.

This week, to coincide with our picnic at the field, ice-lollies will be available to both key stages on Thursday only – 25p as usual. Thank you.

School photographs

A reminder that class photographs are being taken this week on Wednesday 6th June.

Extra-curricular clubs

All clubs will be continuing this half term, with the exception of fencing which has its final session this week on Thursday 7th June. Art Jam is continuing but starting again from next week, Monday 11th June to 16th July. Please also note, football club is being extended to Y1, please see separate letter sent home today.

History Day

On Friday 25th May the whole school took part in National History Day. In assembly Mrs Williams shared the importance of recognizing how events in British History have shaped our lives today. The children learnt about the importance of the women's suffrage movement which led to the Parliament Act 1918 giving women the right to vote.

Election Day

To provide a modern day link to the Parliament Act of 1918, the school council held a mock election on National History Day. Three political parties presented their manifestos on Monday and then campaigned throughout the week. Every child from reception to Year 6 got to cast their vote at the official 'Polling Station'. After a close run election the winning party was 'The Union Party' with 91 votes followed by 'The Heart Savers' with 63 votes and 'A better Life' with 59 votes. Well done to all the school councillors for working so hard on their campaigns and to the rest of the school for exercising their right to vote.

Sports news

Well done to the KS2 cricket team who won the FAVSP kwik cricket tournament at Frodsham Cricket Club. They won every game and have qualified for the area finals to be held at Kingsley CC later this month. Good luck everyone!

Poetry recital competition

Well done to Isabelle Clark (Year 1) and Charlie Holding (Year 3) who have won our poetry recital competition and received £10 book vouchers. Well done as well to all the class winners who received a special poetry book and to winners of good listening certificates!

Holidays during term time

A polite reminder if you wish to take your child out of school for a holiday/time off during term time, a leave of absence request form must be completed, which are available on request from the school office. This form should be returned and reviewed by Mr Richardson prior to any time off.

Cinema night

Please book and pay on your ParentPay account asap if you still wish your child to attend the cinema night on Thursday 14th June, so we can finalise numbers.

Lunch accounts

Please ensure your child’s lunch account is in credit and any arrears are cleared asap via ParentPay for the start of this new half term.

Administering medication in school

Following recent changes in guidelines from the NHS West Cheshire Clinical Commissioning Group, we are now able to administer over the counter medication for minor conditions, in addition to prescribed medication. Written consent however is still required so a ‘request to administer medicine’ form must be completed, available from the school office. Our updated medicines policy is available on the school website.

National Bookstart Week

Next week is National Bookstart Week and the theme this year is ‘Bookstart Bird Boogie’. Libraries across West Cheshire will be celebrating with exciting events to inspire families to have fun reading together. Children who attend any of the events will receive a free copy of the picture book ‘A Busy Day for Birds by Lucy Cousins’.

Please visit your nearest library or children’s centre to find out more. Details of events across west Cheshire are available on Your West Cheshire You can also join in the fun at home with plenty of arts, crafts and games, all on the Bookstart website.
