Minydon

Welcome back to Y6 after their week at Minydon.  The children and staff enjoyed a terrific week of outdoor and adventurous activities.  Unfortunately, on the last night a number of children were taken ill which was a shame.  We hope it doesn’t detract from what was a fantastic experience.  We have reviewed our practice for residentials with a view to ensuring this does not happen again.

Virus

A large number of 6 pupils were ill at the end of the Minydon trip.  Public Health have been informed and advised us that any children suffering the symptoms (sickness and diarrhoea ) should remain at home until 48hours have elapsed from feeling better.  Thank you for your support with this.  A leaflet with more information will be sent out soon.

Helsby Hillside Primary School – 50 year anniversary

As some of you may remember we celebrated our school centenary in 2010 as the school was built in 1910.  However, it didn’t become a primary school until 1964 and we would like to celebrate Hillside reaching the age of 50 with a party!

We are asking children and staff (and parents too if you like!) to come to school on Friday 24th October in 1960’s fancy dress.  Anything from the Beatles to the moon landings!

As always, thanks for your support.  Any queries, please check with Mr Richardson.

Open Days

We are holding our open days for prospective parents this week.  If you know of any parents with children ready to start school next year, please let them know.  Thank you.

Photographs

We hope that you like the individual and family photographs that were taken today.  Please get any order forms back to us on time.  Any queries, please ask in the office.

Sports News

Last Friday the Y5/6 football team played their first game of the season and lost 6-2 at ‘Our Lady’s’.  After a bright first half which ended 2-2 Our Lady’s played well in the second half to win 6-2.  However, it was an encouraging start for Hillside who can now look forward to their league games with confidence.

Well done to all the cross country runners who ran in the first of the series of races organised by the West Cheshire Athletics Club this Saturday.

This week sees a team of 6 orienteers travel to Helsby High School for a competition.

Three children will attend dodgeball leader training so that they can then lead dodgeball activities in school.

FOH

Our next Friends of Hillside meeting is tonight.  If you couldn't make the last one, you missed free flapjack and a few laughs! Why not come along to the meeting tonight, bring all your great ideas and we'll make this Christmas Fair a brilliant one.. (with the essential mulled wine!) See you in the staff room at 7pm.

Thank-you so much to everyone who has completed the online survey.  Feedback has been really positive, and we hope to use this method of canvassing your ideas again in the future.  Further information will follow soon on plans for Christmas!  If you haven’t completed the survey already and would like to, please visit the PTA section on the school website, as the survey will be open until 7pm tonight.
