Weekly Newsletter

9th July

Warm weather

We would just like to reassure parents that staff are being very mindful of the hot weather conditions.  Pupils are being reminded to take regular drinks of water and to spend time in the shade at break times rather than in the sun.  We have been pleased that the children have been making wise choices regarding this and with their attitudes to work.  Please remember to send the children in with a water bottle, a hat (and sun cream applied if possible).  Thank you.

Picnic lunch

Please note that we will be having a picnic lunch on Monday 16th July and the children will be eating this outside, weather permitting so the normal lunch menu will not be available. Children can bring in their own packed lunch or you can buy one from the school kitchen as normal, cost £2.25.

Reports

Your child’s annual school report will be sent out tomorrow at the end of the day.  Please read this carefully as it provides a summary of the progress your child has made this academic year. If you have any questions, these can be raised during our open evening on Wednesday.

Open Evening

Please remember that it is our Open Evening on Wednesday 11th July.  School will be open from 3.15pm until 5.30pm and this is a chance for you to come in and see your child’s work and to discuss any issues you may have after receiving your child’s annual school report.

Changeover Day

All children will get a chance to spend the day in their class for next year this Friday, 13th July.  We hope that the children enjoy spending time in their new classroom and that this helps prepare them for the changes ahead.  We will also be welcoming children from next year’s Reception class on Thursday and Friday.  We hope they enjoy their time in school too!

And good luck to our Y6 pupils who are transferring to Helsby High School in September.  Their transition days are this Thursday and Friday.  We hope they enjoy their time at the High school and that they have a useful two days.

End of term arrangements

Please note that it is our Year 6 Leaver’s assembly on Thursday 19th July at 9.30am.

School closes at 2pm on Friday 20th July.

Lunch accounts

Please check your account on ParentPay and if in arrears please make payment asap to clear the amount owing. Please also ensure the account is in credit if you wish your child to receive any further school lunches before we finish for the summer. Any Y6 accounts with a credit balance will be refunded or can be transferred to a younger sibling at the end of term. A reminder that the cost of a school meal is increasing to £2.30 from September.

Sports update

Well done to the Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 pupils who participated in the FAVSP athletics event at Helsby High School last week.  The children tried really hard and performed well!

Good luck to the Y3/4 tennis players and Y6 gymnasts who are competing in the Cheshire games in Macclesfield this Wednesday.  It is a terrific achievement to qualify for the county finals and we wish them all well!

Chester Aid to the Homeless

Ian Percival, from Chester Aid to the Homeless, led an assembly in school last week to inform pupils and staff about the problems facing homeless people in Chester of which there are a growing number.  Further information can be found at www.cath.org.uk

New Nursery/Pre-school for Helsby

We are really pleased that a nursery is to start up again in the Methodist church on 5th September this year.  For anyone interested, S4YC (the new providers) will be at our open evening on Wednesday with further information.  The nursery will provide a pre-school education for children from 2 to 4 years old.  We are looking to work closely with the nursery and are looking to set up a regular Mother and Toddler group in school.  Any queries or questions can be directed to Mr Richardson.
