Weekly Newsletter

30th March

We hope that everyone enjoys a great Easter holiday.  We have enjoyed an excellent Spring term and the children have generally tried very hard and made good progress.  Highlights have been the Y2 and Y4 residentials, Red Nose Day and World Book Day along with everything else that makes Hillside such a fun place to be!

Thank you, as always, to parents and grandparents for your help and support over the term.

Easter Assembly

Everyone is warmly welcomed to join us for an Easter assembly at 1.10pm on Thursday afternoon before school closes at 2pm.  We will tell the Easter story and enjoy singing some fun Easter songs.

Lucky Dip lunch 2nd April

Amy, the school cook, is cooking a ‘Lucky Dip’ lunch on Thursday 2nd April.  The children will have a number of different options to choose from.

Sports News

Well done to the Y3 football team who played in the Everton mini-kickers tournament last week.  They played very well and won two of their games.

Delamere cross country

Well done to all members of the cross country squad who ran in the Delamere Forest races on Friday.  Special mention to Darcey Fay, Zak Dean and James Heatley who all came first in their races and Ryan Bagley and Nathan Robinson who came second in their races.

Summer term

Please remember that the summer term starts at 8.55am on Monday 20th April.  We look forward to seeing everyone then!

Ground Force Day

We are now going to be working on the Community Garden on Friday May 8th, 1.15-3.15pm.  Please do come along if you can as we need to dig over the beds and plant the vegetables.  We will also try and do some general weeding and tidying so…….the more the merrier!  Thank you!

Charity Run – from Stanley Spriggs Y6

My mum is running the London marathon for Anthony Nolan, a charity working to save lives of people with blood cancer and blood disorders.  If my mum’s sister could have had a donor it would have changed everything.  If you want to sponsor her (please do, she’s training really hard!) go to and type in Frances Spriggs.  Thank you very much.

Walk to Twickenham

We are holding an event to celebrate the forthcoming Rugby Union World Cup.  Walk to Twickenham will see the whole school walk the distance from Helsby to Twickenham: 209 miles.  So, each child will walk nearly 1 mile each through the village and then finish at the school field for a game of rugby!  This event will be held on 28th April – watch this space for further details.

Lost Property

All items of uniform, PE kit, etc left in the KS2 cloakroom will be put on a table near the KS2 gate on Thursday afternoon at 2pm.  Please look out for any lost items.  Any unclaimed items will be disposed of.

Please make sure lunchboxes are not left in school over the holidays and that Y6 lockers are emptied.  Thank you.

New Fit 4 Life Programmes Starting!

Fit 4 Life has been commissioned by Cheshire West and Chester Council to deliver FREE healthy lifestyle sessions to educate young people aged from 4 to 16 and their families about the benefits of healthy eating and regular exercise.

The programmes run for 6 weeks and are for children aged 4-16 years old who are above a healthy weight and their families. Children participate in 45 minutes of fun physical activity followed by 45 minutes of interactive healthy eating education and cook & eat sessions. Meanwhile the parents will participate in 1 hour 30 minutes of an interactive healthy lifestyle workshop with our trained leaders.

It can be difficult to tell if children are above a healthy weight but there are some signs to look out for including; clothes getting tighter, being out of breath easily when active, complaining their joints hurt, avoiding sports and PE, not wanting to get changed in front of others and carrying extra weight around the tummy.

New Fit 4 Life programmes are due to start at:

The EPIC Leisure Centre, McGarva Way, Ellesmere Port, CH65 9HH

On: Tuesday 21st April

At: 4.15pm-5.45pm

If you are interested in more information or would like to register your details for this or future programmes please contact the team on:
